Things I’ve Learned About Writing and Hot Pans

Filed under: writing blurb  Tom Bentley @ 12:25 pm

I have a guest post on today’s Guide to Literary Agents blog (the “Seven Things I’ve Learned So Far” column) that is the condensed milk version of my “Writing Ideas” post from yesterday. Hey, if I can’t steal from myself, who can I steal from?

As far as things I’ve personally learned, never put your hand palm-down on a hot iron skillet to test how hot it is. If you do, you won’t be the only person I know to have done this. More self-cooking tips to follow.

  1. I laughed, I cried. I’d like to say I closed my blog pages and spreadsheets and got back to work…but hey, at least you made me feel think about it, I consider that progress. ;)

  2. Thank you, Lisa! (Of course, in looking at your site, one (that being me) has to wonder WHICH Lisa does the posting in this pairing. Do you trade off? Does the other have to approve? It sounds complicated being a brace of Lisas, but it’s probably good too.

    Thanks for the note!

  3. How’d you know we had braces? Yeah, I should probably get permission more often; TOL (The Other Lisa) is still sore over that ponzi scheme thing…but heck, how was I to know you can’t grow soy beans in Mexico? We do trade off writing posts but we’re on the lookout for anyone who wants to guest blog so if you’re ever in the neighborhood…

  4. Thank you for your 7 Things column. Loved it, and it gave me a nice kick in the behind…much needed!

  5. Wow, now that I know there’a an etiquette bitch, I am going to make sure there are no corn wedges in my teeth before I reply. Love your site, E.B. Thanks for the visit.

And Lisa(s), maybe I will holler if I have an idea for a post that suits your site. Thank you for the invitation.

  6. Your 7 Things… spot on! Thanks a lot, they are all so true but also hard to turn into habit! I’m working on it. Pleased I found your blog too.

  7. James, any man who has a hamster as a literary critic is a man to be reckoned with. And on the issue of taking my advice, I’m afraid I have to make a titanic effort to maintain those standards too. (As soon as I slip off my soapbox, I tend to return to the “Ah, I can get to that tomorrow” slant. Danger!)

    Thanks for the note.
